Datical has banner year in 2015, gears up for significant expansion in 2016

Modern enterprise application delivery creates urgent need to automate database changes

Austin, Texas – February 11, 2016 – Datical, the leading provider of agile database automation solutions, saw a record surge in revenue and customer growth over the course of 2015, complemented by key executive additions and an infusion of venture capital. The company’s overall momentum is indicative of the fact that IT organizations require innovation to keep pace with the growing wave of application releases and resulting database changes demanded by the digital enterprise.

In 2015, Datical grew subscription revenue by more than 300 percent. Major brands signing up to eliminate the bottleneck facing today’s database administrators and data architects included GE Transportation, eBay Enterprise, Fidelity Investments, Deloitte and the State of North Dakota.

Datical DB was also named one of Database Trends and Application’s “Trend-Setting Products in Data and Information Management for 2016.”

“Our growth and achievements have been phenomenal,” said Derek Hutson, CEO of Datical. “It’s clear that the market recognizes the value of automating database change in concert with the application development cycle.”

In January, Datical announced an $8 million Series B funding round, led by S3 Ventures with participation from existing investors Mercury Fund and Austin Ventures. The additional capital will enable Datical to grow its team, expand its technology to apply to more varieties of cloud and semi-structured databases, and improve automated change management features and functionality for customers in 2016 and beyond.

“Accelerated speed and constant change are the new reality, as organizations adopt DevOps and continuous delivery practices to remain competitive,” said Julie Craig, research director at Enterprise Management Associates, at the time. “The ‘do not change’ paradigm that has surrounded databases since the 80s is now creating a bottleneck that is not compatible with organizational mandates to accelerate the speed of software delivery.”

“Datical rounds out the continuous delivery automation story with an integrated approach to the packaging, validation and deployment of database changes,” Craig continued. “‘Out of the box’ integrations with popular code repository, version control and release management solutions round out that story.”

The company fortified its C-Suite in 2015 and early 2016, with the most recent addition to the executive bench being newly-appointed CFO Patti Soch. Soch comes to Datical after guiding Gazzang to a successful 2014 acquisition by Cloudera and worked with Datical’s co-founders at their previous automated deployment company, Phurnace Software.

Datical will also be hiring heavily on its product development, customer support and sales teams throughout this year, both at its new Northwest Austin headquarters and in other locales.
